This is question 15 on the FAFSA.

The response identifies the student's eight or nine-digit Alien Registration Number.

If the Alien Registration Number is eight digits, the Alien Registration Number starts with a zero. If the student is an eligible noncitizen, this question can be left blank only if he or she selected one of the following states of legal residence: Canada, Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland/Labrador, Newfoundland, Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Nunavut, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Saskatchewan, Yukon, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Marshall Islands, or Palau.
