This is question 55 on the FAFSA.
The student is a veteran if he/she:
- Served in active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard), or served as a member of the National Guard or Reserves and was called to service for purposes other than training, or was a cadet or midshipman at one of the service academies, and
- Was released under a condition other than dishonorable.
If the student is not a veteran now but will be one by June 30, 2008, the answer should be Yes.
The student is not a veteran if he or she:
- Has never served in the U.S. Armed Forces, or
- Is currently an ROTC student, a cadet or midshipman at a service academy, or a National Guard or Reserves enlistee activated only for training, or
- Currently serves in the U.S. Armed Forces and will continue to serve through June 30, 2007.
The response cannot be blank.
