Your Data Release Number (DRN) appears on your Student Aid Report (SAR). The DRN allows you to contact the Federal Student Aid Information Center to make corrections to your mailing address or school list. It also allows you to release your FAFSA information to schools you did not select on the original FAFSA.

Your PIN will be issued separately from your SAR. It allows you to access Renewal FAFSA on the Web and Corrections on the Web. It also allows you to electronically sign FAFSA on the Web, Renewal FAFSA on the Web, and Corrections on the Web applications.

The DRN and the PIN serve two different purposes. Your DRN can be shared with customer service representatives or school financial aid officers to authorize them to access your information. Your PIN should not be shared with anyone. Your PIN should only be used, by you, to access your personal information and electronically sign your applications.
