You are not required to have a PIN to complete and submit a FAFSA on the Web application, however, it is the fastest way to sign your application and have it processed. We encourage you to apply for a PIN. The PIN allows you to sign electronic applications without the need to submit a signature page. The PIN also allows access to your personal information on several U.S. Department of Education web sites.
If you want a PIN you can request one by going to the Federal Student Aid's PIN Web site at www.pin.ed.gov and selecting "Apply for a PIN".
If you provide an e-mail address, you will receive a PIN e-mail notification, within 1 to 3 days, with a link to retrieve your PIN electronically. If you do not provide an e-mail address, your PIN will be mailed to you within 7-10 days.
Note: To ensure that your PIN notification is delivered to your e-mail inbox, enter our e-mail address into your e-mail address book. Our e-mail address is: FederalStudentAidPIN@cpsemail.ed.gov.
