You must apply for federal student aid for every school year that you attend. To reapply, you can use either a Pre-filled FAFSA or a regular FAFSA. The Pre-filled FAFSA requests the same information as a regular FAFSA, but it already contains most of the information you provided on the FAFSA last year. Simply updating the information for the new school year on a Pre-filled FAFSA may be faster. However, the pre-filled application is available solely for your convenience. If you prefer to start fresh with a new FAFSA, you are free to do so.
To reapply, you should submit only one application per academic year, using one of the following:
1. Pre-filled FAFSA
If you applied for financial aid last year and meet certain conditions, Federal Student Aid will send you an electronic notification for a Pre-filled FAFSA on the Web. Here are the available pre-filled applications:
| Electronic |
|---|
| Pre-filled FAFSA on the Web (PIN required) |
| Pre-filled FAFSA en español (PIN required) |
2. Regular FAFSA
A pre-filled application is not the only option for reapplying. You can use the Free Application for Federal Student Aid to apply or reapply for federal aid. Here are the available applications:
| Electronic | Paper |
|---|---|
| FAFSA on the Web | FAFSA |
| FAFSA on the Web en español | FAFSA en español |
3. You can reapply for financial aid through your school's
financial aid office if the school participates in Electronic Data Exchange
(EDE). You should contact the financial aid office at the school you plan
to attend for more information.
