By signing this application you agree, if asked, to provide information that will verify the accuracy of your completed application. This information may include a copy of your U.S. or state income tax form. By signing, you certify that you:
- Will use any federal or state student financial aid funds received to pay the cost of attending an institution of higher education,
- Are not in default on a federal student loan or have made satisfactory arrangements to repay it,
- Do not owe money back on a federal student grant or have made satisfactory arrangements to repay it, and
- Will notify your school if you default on a federal student loan.
- Will not receive a Federal Pell Grant for more than one school for the same period of time.
In addition, you and your parent understand that the Secretary of Education has the authority to verify income reported on this application with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and other Federal agencies. If you sign any document related to the federal student aid programs electronically using a PIN, you certify that you are the person identified by the PIN and have not disclosed that PIN to anyone else. If you or your parents purposely give false or misleading information, you and your parents may be fined $20,000, sent to prison, or both.
Federal Student Aid accepts three types of signatures for the FAFSA. They include:
| Signature Type | Instructions |
|---|---|
| Signature page | Print the signature page at the end of the FAFSA on the Web, sign it, and mail it to the address on the page. Print on one sheet of white paper and make sure no text is cut off along the right margin. Make sure your name, Social Security Number, address, signature, and the application year (for example, "2009-2010 FAFSA on the Web") is complete and visible on the page. |
| PIN | Use a PIN to sign the application electronically by going to the FAFSA on the Web home page and selecting "Sign Electronically With Your PIN" from the "Filling Out a FAFSA" section. If you do not already have a PIN, you provide an e-mail address at the end of the FAFSA on the Web application, and the application is processed successfully, we will send you an e-mail that you can use to retrieve your PIN from the PIN Web site (www.pin.ed.gov). Otherwise, a PIN will be mailed to you. |
| SAR | Wait to receive the Student Aid Report (SAR) through the mail, and return it with the required signatures. You may choose this option if you do not have a printer. If you provide a valid e-mail address at the end of the FAFSA on the Web application, you will receive an e-mail notification that the SAR is available for viewing on the Web. |
