Each page of the FAFSA on the Web application has special navigation buttons and links to make it easier for you to complete the application. You should use only these buttons, unless we say otherwise. If you use other navigational features provided by your Internet browser, you risk losing information previously entered in the application.
Please note that the images shown below are examples of the most common images you will see. The images color will be different based on whether they are the next logical step (blue), other features (white), or if the mouse is on top of the button (light blue).
The buttons found at the lower part of every FAFSA on the Web page include:
Goes back to the last page viewed.
Always use the Next button to move forward
through the application. You may not need to answer every question on a certain
step of the application. The Next button will guide you through
the application to the specific questions that you need to answer. Using this
button helps you skip unnecessary questions.
Exit allows you to erase all of the answers and start over
at the home page. When selecting Exit, you are asked to confirm
that you want to clear and exit the application. If you are certain that you
want to clear and exit, you must select OK. If you are unsure
you can select Cancel.
The Save button allows you to save the application and complete
it at a later time. When you select Save, the application
will be saved for 45 days or until the federal application/correction deadline
date. Do not use the Save or Save As command in the File
menu at the top of the browser window, since this command does not save the
application! Saving does not submit the application. You must access your
saved application within 45 days or before the federal application/correction
deadline date. (Select Application Deadline Dates on the
home page to see the federal application/correction deadline dates).
To access your saved application, select Continue Working on a Saved FAFSA on the home page. Select the application that you want to retrieve then enter your Social Security Number, last name, first name, date of birth and password.
If you cannot remember your password, select forgot my password at the bottom of the Application Restore Login page. Enter the information required to verify your identity and select Next. Upon creating a new password and selecting Next, you will be taken to the last page you were on when you saved your application or correction form. Alternatively, you may contact Customer Service to have your password reset.
The Need Help? button provides help on the
section of the application on which you are working.
