You must enter your Social Security Number (SSN) to be considered for federal student aid.
Enter the Social Security Number (SSN) that is printed on your Social Security Card. Enter this number without dashes. For example enter, 123456789.
Re-enter your SSN to verify that it is correct.
- Your SSN is automatically filled in on the application based on the SSN entered on the FAFSA Login page. If this information was entered incorrectly on the Login page, you cannot change it and must start a new application.
- For Pre-filled FAFSAs and Correction applications, we display the Social Security Number you previously reported to us.
Special instructions for citizens of the Freely Associated States
If you do not have an SSN and are a citizen of the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, or Palau, otherwise known as the Freely Associated States, enter 888 in the first three positions of the SSN field and leave the remaining six positions blank. Once your application is processed, the last 6 digits of the SSN will be assigned to you.
The Privacy Act statement gives information about how your SSN is protected and how it can be used.
You may contact the Social Security Administration at 1-800-772-1213 or visit the Social Security Administration's Web site at www.ssa.gov to apply for a SSN or for assistance with other SSN related issues.
